The responsibility of the driver only?

Almost half of all fleet managers consider safety to be a responsibility shared by both drivers and the company, even if the general trend is to view it as the responsibility of the driver alone.

Opinions are divided from one country to another:

In Spain, Greece, Portugal, and the UK, a majority of fleet managers believe that the safety is a responsibility shared by the employee and the company.

However, in Germany, Belgium, and Switzerland, most fleet managers believe that safety is primarily the driver's responsibility, rather than one shared with the company

15% of companies with fewer than 100 employees, and 21% of companies with over 100 employees have already set up mandatory safety courses:

  • in the Czech Republic, this type of course is already widespread (in over half of all companies, irrespective of the size)
  • then, with scores higher than the European average, are France, Portugal, and Spain

These courses are often classroom based or performed on the road, and are held annually.
